Who I Am
My ex-husband left me burdened with hundreds of thousands of dollars in debts accumulated during our marriage. Shockingly, he managed to amass nearly $250,000 in unsecured debt while we were technically still married, thanks to his intact credit. Meanwhile, I juggled the responsibilities of servicing matrimonial debt, representing myself in divorce proceedings, working full-time, and caring for our two children.
The situation took a darker turn when I went to court seeking an equalization payment owed to me. Running from financial responsibility, my ex-husband declared bankruptcy, trapping me in the role of a creditor in his personal bankruptcy. Unaware that the bankruptcy had closed and funds – however minimal – were available to me, I embarked on the challenging journey of reclaiming what was rightfully mine.
